Metallica and Kings Of Leon each secured a second week atop the new U.K. sales charts yesterday (Sept. 21), as Ne-Yo and Queen + Paul Rodgers won top five album debuts."Death Magnetic" (Vertigo/Universal) stayed at No. 1 on the album survey in its first full week of release, as Ne-Yo's "Year of the Gentleman" (Def Jam) entered at No. 2. "The Cosmos Rocks" by Queen featuring new lead singer Rodgers came in at No. 5. The Streets' "Everything Is Borrowed" (XL Recordings) was the other top 10 newcomer at No. 7, after the British rap act's consecutive No. 1s with "A Grand Don't Come For Free" in 2004 and "The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Living" two years later.
Stevie Wonder's "The Definitive Collection" (UMTV) climbed 14-11 and his 1972 classic "Superstition" re-entered the singles chart at No. 65, after his Sept. 12 performance of it on BBC1's "Friday Night With Jonathan Ross."
Kings Of Leon's "Sex on Fire" (Hand Me Down/Sony BMG) started a second week at No. 1 on the singles chart, as the U.S. quartet's last album "Because of the Times" climbed back 21-12. KoL's new, fourth album "Only By The Night" is released in the U.K. today and tomorrow in the U.S.
Katy Perry's former No. 1 "I Kissed a Girl" (Virgin/EMI) held at No. 2 as Pussycat Dolls' "When I Grow Up" (Interscope/Universal) climbed 4-3. McFly's "Lies" (Super) vaulted 23-4 and Gym Class Heroes' "Cookie Jar" (Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen) 12-6. Ne-Yo's "Miss Independent" (Def Jam/Universal) improved 14-9 and Will Young's "Changes" (19/RCA/Sony BMG) debuted at No.10.
"Death Magnetic" is also a new entry at No. 1 on Billboard's European Top 100 Albums, while "I Kissed a Girl" is in its sixth week at the Eurochart Hot 100 Singles summit.
